Korean onomatopoeic and mimetic words make sentences more active and italone could make listeners recognize the tone of the speech context and what aspeaker wants to say. We can notice that various media in which learners areexposed to use these words frequently. For effective language learning, learnersshould understand native speakers’s beliefs and culture through the language theyuse. To do this, have a good command of Korean as a native speaker, learnersneed to know onomatopoeic and mimetic words in Korean. So we consideronomatopoeic and mimetic words in Korean as ‘culture-based vocabulary.’ Oneof the methods for acquiring onomatopoeic and mimetic words efficiently is toanalyze and choose in picture books, and then examined usages in newspaperarticle search site.
