초록
Based on the essential principles for teaching and learning in a multicultural society suggested by Banks et al. (2001), this study aims to analyze, using questionnaires and in-depth interviews, teaching and learning in multicultural education in Korea. The purpose of the study is to review the status of multicultural education in the Korean elementary schools and how well Korea’s multicultural policy has been carried out. Questionnaires and in-depth interviews are used to assess Korea’s multicultural policies and their application by the teachers from the schools that receive subsidies from the government for multicultural education. The review and analysis from this study will form the basis on which current multicultural education in the elementary schools can be more exactly assessed and from which more sophisticated policies established. All interviews are recorded and transcribed to convert data into charts. The results are used to analyze how well the Korean policies reflect the 12essential principles suggested by Banks et al. (2001).
