Abstract
본고는 2015년 Fernandez-Vest와 Van Valin에 의해 출판된 논문 모음집 ‘Information Structuring of Spoken Language from a Cross-linguistic Perspective’에 대한 서평 논문으로, 그 동안 정보구조 논의에서 자주 다루어지지 않았던 여러 언어들에 대한 다양한 관점에서의 연구들을 소개하고 비평하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 대부분 구어를 대상으로 하고, 초점을 비롯하여 화제, 대조, 기타 담화적 의미들이 다루어졌다. 상이한 언어들이 보이는 갖가지 형식과 의미의 흥미로운 상관관계가 제시되어 있다. 단, 정보구조 범주들에 대한 개념적 오류를 보이거나, 논의에서 주장하는 형식과 의미의 상관관계가 종종 충분히 증명되지 않은 문제점들이 지적될 수 있다. 이 책에서 기술된 현상들을 바탕으로, 정보구조적 의미의 지위와 다른 의미들 간의 관계, 정보구조 변이의 주요 매개 변인으로서의 사용역, 한국어와 다른 언어들의 대조 연구 등의 주제들이 활발하게 논의될 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.
