초록

This paper presents the findings of a small survey study that investigatedKSL student experiences of online learning as a result of the COVID-19pandemic. The survey, which was completed by 21 students enrolled inKorean language courses at an Australian university, was designed to explorethe effects of online learning via thematic analysis. The analysis of resultsshows that, while students gave positive responses on certain aspects ofonline learning, various disadvantages outnumbered advantages in theresponses. Themes of advantages of online learning in the analysis included:capacity to manage students own time, flexible access to materials, earlyavailability of class subject matter and flexibility of assessment methods. Theanalysis also reveals a number of recurring thematic issues, including:insufficient peer interaction, reduced access to services and support oncampus, personal time management, motivational problems and loosesupervision of tests and assessment tasks. The study discusses the advantagesand disadvantages of recurring themes in further detail and also brieflydiscusses conditions in which online delivery should continue in thelonger-term post-pandemic. The study concludes that improved approachesand tools to support online learning need to be developed should there be aneed for its continuation as a new norm in future.
