Abstract
This study provides a strategic direction for firms in the field of AI software to increase innovation performance. Based on organizational learning theory, specifically, this study emphasizes the importance of an appropriate search strategy for companies. This study quantitatively analyze the relationship between the search diversity and innovation performance with the sample of 112 firms in the US software industry that are developing artificial intelligence technologies. After this base analysis, I additionally analyze direct relationship between alliance portfolio diversity and innovation performance, and how the alliance portfolio diversity has a moderating effect on the relationship between search diversity and innovation performance. As a result of this analysis, it was found that in the case of the artificial intelligence software industry, an inverted U-shaped nonlinear relationship exists between the search diversity and innovation performance. In addition, it was found that the alliance portfolio diversity positively moderates the relationship between search diversity and innovation performance.
