입양아동의 정체성 구축과 서사적 매개자로서의 태몽 -2000년대 이후 국내 입양아동서사를 중심으로-

본 연구는 현대 한국 아동문학에서 전통적 문화 장치인 태몽이 ‘입양 진입 서사’와 연결되어 새로운 가족 관계망을 만들어내는 과정과 양상을 분석하였다. 특히 입양 진입 서사의 일곱 가지 테마가 한국의 문화적 맥락에서 태몽과 결합하며 서사적 의미를 획득하는 과정에 주목하였다. 분석 대상으로 2000년대 이후 창작된 입양 관련 서사 작품, 『빛나는 그림자가』, 『햄릿과 나』, 『내 가슴에 해마가 산다』를 선정하여 각 작품에서 나타나는 입양 진입 서사의 테마들과 역할을 분석하였다. 그 결과, ‘개방성’, ‘선택된 아이’, ‘구조’, ‘재연결’, ‘차이’, ‘기만’, ‘운명’이라는 테마들이 복합적으로 작용하며 입양아동의 정체성 형성 과정에 영향을 미친다는 것이 밝혀졌다. ‘시작의 부재’는 태몽이라는 문화적 장치를 통해 전복되고, 입양 진입 서사로서 새로운 의미를 생성한다. 태몽은 혈연/비혈연의 경계를 해체하고 존재들을 재매개하는 역할(『햄릿과 나』)을 하거나, 노인의 태몽이 관계에 대한 사후적 인정의례로 기능하여 세대를 넘어선 화해와 수용의 가능성(『내 가슴에 해마가 산다』)을 보여준다. 나아가 태몽의 부재가 역설적으로 새로운 형태의 진입 서사를 가능케 하는 계기(『빛나는 그림자가』)가 되기도 한다. 이는 다양한 가족 서사의 하나로서 입양아동 서사의 가능성을 보여준다. 또한 태몽이라는 전통적 문화 기제가 현대적 맥락에서 창조적으로 재해석되면서, 혈연중심 가족 이데올로기를 넘어서는 대안적 가족 모델의 가능성을 제시한다는 점에서 의의가 있다.
Abstract
This study analyzed the process and aspects in which Taemong, a Korean traditional culture, is connected to the ‘adoption entrance narratives’ in modern Korean children’s literature to create a new family relationship network. This study paid attention to the process by which the seven themes of the adoption entrance narrative presented by Haley Kranstuber and Jody Koenig Kellas (openness, deception, choice, fate, difference, rescue, and reunion) acquire special meaning by combining. The main problem that appears in the process of forming an adopted child’s identity is the lack of a ‘start’. In this study, this was examined with a focus on the adoption entrance narratives. It was confirmed in Shining Shadow, the themes of ‘openness’, ‘chosen child’, ‘rescue’, ‘reunification’, in Hamlet and I, the themes of ‘difference’, ‘deception’, ‘fate’, ‘chosen child’, in A Seahorse Lives in My Heart, the themes of ‘openness’, ‘rescue’, ‘reunification’, ‘difference’. These work in a complex manner and influence the identity formation process of adopted children. This absence of beginning is overturned by our culture, Taemong and creates new meaning. In Hamlet and I, the Taemong plays a role in dismantling and remediating the boundary of blood, and in A Seahorse Lives in My Heart, the grandmother’s Taemong work as a rite of posthumous recognition of the relationship, promoting reconciliation across generations. In Shining Shadow, the absence of a Taemong paradoxically becomes an opportunity to enable a new form of self–recognition. In this way, it was confirmed that Taemong, which was a mechanism to justify blood relations, could play a role in mediating non–blood relations and creating new meaning in the context of an adoptive family. This shows that adopted child narratives can add diversity to simple family narratives. In addition, it was confirmed that the traditional cultural mechanism of Taemong was creatively reinterpreted in a modern context, suggesting the possibility of an alternative family model that goes beyond blood–related family ideology.
