Abstract
Lianxiang(廂連) refers to the performance method of a play in which visual and auditory expressions are separated. This played a role in the establishment of the BeiquZaju(北曲雜劇) during the Jin Dynasty, but later in China, it was not passed down and disappeared. However, in Koram in Sri Lanka and Khon in Thailand, the method of Lianxiang(廂連) has been used for mask drama performances so far, and it is highly likely that Korean Ttangseolbeob and the Manchurian Errenzhuan(二人轉) were also performed in this way. Combining these cases with the keywords Buddhism and the Silk Road, the roots are directed to ancient India. And in China, some of the works of Dunhwang Bianwen are likely to be early examples of scripts for the drama performed on the the method of Lianxiang(廂連). In short, the meaning of Lianxiang(廂連)'s cases outside China can be evaluated in that they evoke an essential "change of thinking" in the study on the history of Chinese drama.
