Abstract
The world of arts that Dante observed include sculpture, painting, and architecture. Dante was a poet who could be identified as an artist and a critic of art. In his time, the painting was undergoing a big change; Giotto di Bondone was attempting to represent the reality by loading the historical episodes in his paintings and thereby to escape from the ideal and abstract symbolism of medieval arts. Dante was particularly interested in the field of painting. This paper aims to trace up how the poet Dante related himself to the paintings between the 13th and the 16th centuries.
