Abstract
A Study on Hwadoo Hwadoo(A Subject of Conversation) is an autobiographical work with some intensive reflection upon the relationship between literature and ideology. Choi In Hoon makes much use of Cho Myung Hee's "Nakdong River," because he thinks the slavish life expressed so vividly in it is very similar to that of contemporary times. Cho who chose to live as an exile can be said to be an alter ego of Choi In Hoon who once planned to be one himself. In narrative structure of Hwadoo there are many ineffaceable footprints of "Nakdong River." In Korean literary history it is very hard to see this kind of intimate relationship between a previous work and later one. Cho Myung Hee's life awakens the latent desire in "me" of Hwadoo and presses to create something. There is some noticeable difference too. In "Nakdong River," the protagonist feels an absolute oneness with his community while the "I" of Hwadoo remains an individualist almost totally isolated from his society.
