Abstract

Yun I-sang's Composition of Children's Song during the Korean War Period Cho Seong-whan [Cho Sŏng-hwan] Several music text books for elementary school children named by "New Music" used in the area of Pusan and Kyŏngnam province during the Korean War period (1950-1953) were discovered in October, 1998. It was revealed that the textbooks included several Yun I-sang's music works for children. Concerning the fact that government-issued textbook was firstly published in 1955, the books are very precious material in terms of its publication time i.e., it came out three years before the first government-issued textbook. These books also inform us not only the contents of elementary music education during the Korean War period, but also Yun's involvement on the compilation of elementary school music textbook. From these books, we can study the Yun's music world of children's song. This study aimed to introduce Yun's work on children's songs in the early 1950s and to contribute the activation of children's song diffusion in Korea which is being stagged in these days.
