당나라의 고취악(鼓吹樂)에 대한 고찰

Abstract

It must be understood that any era does not have a single musical style, but the diverse musical styles of the court and the folks coexist. Tang China was no exception. The diverse musical styles of the court and the folks coexisted, which has already been confirmed by several documents. Koch'wiak 鼓吹樂, marching band music, accounts for a certain part of the diverse musical styles of Tang China, and koch'wiak was played for the royal procession, the reception of envoys, the marriage of the crown prince, the triumphal march of the military, the entertainment at court banquets and the funeral ceremony. In particular, koch'wiak was introduced to the Korean Peninsula, and has been played over a long period of time. Not only it is still played now, but also it has become a branch of the Korean traditional music. Since ancient times, the koch'wiak of Korea and China have been greatly related to each other, and the author firmly believes that an in depth and systematic study on the Korean koch'wiak requires a study on the Chinese koch'wiak. In other words, it is not until the Chinese koch'wiak is correctly understood that a total understanding of the Korean koch'wiak can be gained. Having started from this perspective, this paper attempts to understand the koch'wiak of Tang China, which is expected to offer some assistance to the study of the Korean koch'wiak. As koch'wiak has a very long history, however, it is deemed impossible to investigate everything about koch'wiak in this study. Therefore, this study will examine only the koch'wiak of Tang China, and systematically investigate and contemplate on it.
