Abstract
This study is a question about an ‘observer’ who follows to ideological and technical development in the course of transition from a camera obscura to photographing camera due to the advent of photography and movies. For this report, there is an important cut of photos which is Jeff Wall’s ‘Picture for Women.’ Visual characteristics and relationship between observers appear not only in paintings but also in photos. What characteristics of an observer cause this? According to Jonathan Crary, recognition and vision don’t have their own spontaneous history but the changes are compound power and regulations which consist of a field originates recognition. Since modern culture lies right in front of the eyes’sensual ideas, an observer exists between the ones who perceive and the others who are perceived by various interests and desires. Shortly, observers are affected by social relations. This study is to discern arts before the 19th century from modern arts and analyze aesthetics of classical revivals and observers through the aesthetics of Vel squez. At the same time, concerning the vision of the 19th century, artworks of E. Manet are to be analyzed as a root of modern observers namely the appearance of observers. Also, this study is to research on contemporary artists and analyze various observers in modern arts through Jeff Wall’s photos. The mutual relationship between artworks and vision is to be explained as a structure of communication through an aspect of existence. Finally, concludes with raising the narcissistic characteristics through photography and the nature of observers.
