Abstract

This paper analyzed the dhāraṇī recovered from the inner recess of the <Gilt-bronze Seated Amitabha Buddhist Statue of Daeseung-sa Temple in Mungyeong>. In the analysis, the dhāraṇī was first compared with seven dhāraṇīs among the <relics from the inner recesses of Buddhist statues from Goryeo Dynasty kept in the Onyang Folk Museum>. Through the foregoing, based on the identical offeror names recorded in individual dhāraṇīs, it was possible to establish the premise that the < relics from the inner recesses of Buddhist statues from Goryeo Dynasty kept in the Onyang Folk Museum> were recovered from the <Gilt-bronze Seated Amitabha Buddhist Statue of Daeseung-sa Temple in Mungyeong>. Based on the foregoing, it could be seen that the <Gilt-bronze Seated Amitabha Buddhist Statue of Daeseung-sa Temple in Mungyeong> was cast in 1302, and that Wife Jang of Changnyeonggun(昌寧郡夫人), Beopyeong (法永), and Kim Do (金瑫) were the main persons in the creation of the Buddhist Statue through an analysis of the prayer texts of three of the <relics from the inner recesses of Buddhist statues from Goryeo Dynasty kept in the Onyang Folk Museum>. In addition, through the analysis of the seven dhāraṇīs, it was said that the <亞-shaped circular Suoqiu dhāraṇī> was printed from the same woodblock as the dhāraṇī collected from the inner recess of the <Gilt-bronze Standing Bhaisajyaguru Statue of Gumi Geumgangsa Temple>, and in the case of <Sanskrit Characters circular dhāraṇī>, it was said that <Borugak Mantra> was written in it by correcting the error of the previous study that called it <Cundi Mantra>. In addition, it was inferred that the <bīja mandala in Vajradhātu thirty-seven disciples> iconograph published in 1301 borrowed the form of the ‘Nilakantha mandala’ that was popular around the Song Dynasty in China through the fact that a similar iconograph was included in the Zhū zūn yào chāo written in the late Heian period of Japan. In addition, through analysis of the iconograph and contents of the <bījamandala in Vajradhātu thirty-seven statues> published in 1301 and the<Sanskrit Characters Circular Mandala> published in 1295, it was said that the various kinds of mantras were written in them, and it was mentioned that these various kinds of mantras are valuable as data for understanding the wishes of the people at that time.
