Abstract
As the maritime industry increasingly recognizes the importance of predictive maintenance for vessel safety and efficiency, challenges such as high latency and low bandwidth in satellite communications, along with a lack of failure data, hinder the implementation of real-time technologies. This study aims to design and validate an integrated platform for AI-driven predictive maintenance and remote support that ensures stable data transmission and effective failure diagnosis despite the limitations of satellite communication environments. We developed techniques for data minimization and transmission optimization, as well as a hybrid failure prediction model based on LSTM-AutoEncoder. System performance was tested using ship’s scrubber data and simulation data within the VSAT environment of an operating vessel. The results demonstrated that the data pipeline remained stable even with communication delays of 600–800ms and under conditions of packet loss. Additionally, the AI model proved technically feasible, achieving a sensitivity of over 82% in initial failure predictions. This study is significant as it presents a practical integrated architecture that addresses challenges in maritime communication and data scarcity, thereby confirming its potential for commercialization and advancing digital transformation in the maritime MRO(Maintenance, Repair, and Operation).
