초록

The top parts in tablets(碑額) of Unified Silla and early Koryo marked a new epoch and opened up a new horizon in Korean calligraphy history. These are precious heritages to compare writing styles with other materials. Writings of top parts in tablets of those ages were recognized as the evidence of the existence of the seal script(篆書) in those ages. In view of these facts, conclusions can be drawn as follows; First, most top parts in tablets(碑額) of Unified Silla and early Koryo were written in seal script style and most of them succeeded to that of The Royal Tomb of King Taejong. The remains left affirms that the tradition of The Royal Tomb of King Taejong, which was built in 661, had been succeeded to Jingongdaesa-bobubtabbi in Biro Temple(939). Second, of the two styles in seal script, the small seal script(小篆) had been accepted from Tang(唐) Dynasty (i.e. Lee Yang Bing's calligraphic style) and changed into a similar but new style. After the small seal script style was applied in the top part of Chulgamsunsa Tablet, several top parts of tablets were written in it. So, there had existed two major kinds of writing styles. Third, though there are very few remains, the top part of Kyungju Chanji Tablet affirms that there also had existed top parts that were written in regular script(楷書) in those ages. This illustrates that the history of writing top parts in regular script in Korea dates back to Unified Silla. The writing styles in the top parts of Jingamsunsa Tablet and Jingongdaesa Tablet in Heungbub Temple are thought to be related with that of The Royal Tomb of King Taejong, they are so different and unique that they show us diverse and various writing styles.
