초록
This thesis is about Korean Buddhist architecture in the 18th century. The object of this study is clarifying the architectural program and design of the Buddhist temple. Yongjusa Temple was constructed in the 18th century in Whasung, Gyeonggi Province with the support by the Court official and Buddhist Monks. The motive of Construction is to prepare the ancestral shrine for Hyunryungwon, the Tomb of the father of the Great King Jeongjo. The architecture of Yongjusa Temple seemed to contain two characteristics, namely official stone construction and Buddhist wooden structure. The central layout of Yongjusa Temple has a geometrical composition with one central south-north axis around the Hall of Sakyamuni, a two-storied building, a meditation hall on the left hand and a Buddhist nunnery on the right hand. There are same examples such as Bongeunsa Temple and Bongsunsa Temple. These two temples are also the temple for Royal Tomb. In the Hall of Sakyamuni of Yongjusa Temple, there are many features of the 18th century Buddhist halls. Ornamentral characteristic, as well as the plan, elevation and section, of the Hall of Sakyamuni is understood as an architectural expression of chang-yeom(莊嚴) in the 18th century.
