현대 도시론의 리좀적 성격

리좀은 들뢰즈와 과타리가 위계를 강조하는 일자(the one)의 사유에 대항하는 비위계적인 다양체의 사유를전개하면서 제안한 개념이다. 리좀은 비위계적이며, 수평적이고, 발산적이고, 내재적이고, 생성적인 특성을 갖는다. 리좀적 성격은 현대 사회와 예술, 영화에서 다양하게 발견될 수 있으며, 현대 건축과 도시론에서도 그 성격을찾아볼 수 있다. 1950년대를 넘어서면서 수목적이고 위계적인 성격의 도시론에 대항하여 리좀적인 성격을 갖는도시론들이 본격적으로 등장하기 시작하며, 이런 특성은 사회의 성격이 보다 유연하고 리좀적으로 변하는 것과연관성이 있다. 또한 인터넷의 발달과 자본주의의 확산으로 인한 연결 방식의 다양화와 인구와 물류, 재화의 흐름의 증가와도 연관성이 있다. 리좀은 거대자본의 축적과 고착화에 대항하는 상향식 도시 계획 방식, 포스트 포디즘적 생산 소비 방식과도 연관이 되어 있다. 본 논문은 이런 리좀의 특징과 현대 도시론과의 연관성을 찾아내고 분석하는 데에 그 목적이 있다.
Abstract
In opposition to the arborescent structure of the thought of “the one”, the rhizomatic structure proposed by Deleuze and Guattari, suggests the non-hierarchical, immanent, divergent and horizontal thought as new model of thinking and system. As Deleuze and Guattari analyse in terms of tree/rhizome, rhizome is related to various domains and the rhizomatic characteristics are found in domains such as philosophy, politic, sociology, cinema, etc. In architecture and urbanism after 1960s, the rhizomatic idea begun to appear in opposition to hierarchical urban system. The purpose of this study is to examine the concept of rhizome and its relation to contemporary urbanism and architecture. This rhizomatic characteristic of urbanism is related to circulation of goods of capitalist society and production of post-fordist society. By the analysis of the concept of rhizome, this research intends to understand the characteristics of contemporary life and thinking in difference to classical and modern life.
