그림책은 유아교실에서 가장 빈번히 활용되고 교사와 유아가 가장 밀착되어 근접한 거리에서 소통할 수 있다는 점에서 그 중요성을 가진다. 그림책은 유아들에게 다양한 경험을 제공함으로써 끊임없이 의미를 재생산하게 하는 ‘의미창출의 공간’이다. 그림책을 통해 유아들은 상상과 은유의 공간을 만들고 그 공간을 심미적으로 향유한다. 그러므로 유아교사가 그림책을 ‘비결정적 의미의 장’이며 ‘해석의 장’으로 이해하기 위하여 보다 확장된 미의식을 가지고 그림책을 바라보려는 노력이 필요하다. 본 연구는 2005’ 칼데콧 수상도서인 “Knuffle Bunny”에 내재한 다양한 심미적 요소-표층미, 심층미, 숭고미와 인식미-를 분석해 봄으로써 유아용 그림책을 미학적 관점에서 바라보고 탐색하도록 하는 것에 목적이 있다. 그림책의 심미성에 대한 고찰은 성인인 유아교사로 하여금 아름답고 신비로운 관점에서 그림책을 바라봄으로써 그림책에 대한 이해를 심화시키도록 도울 뿐만 아니라, 동시에 유아가 종종 넘나드는 상상의 세계로 기꺼이 함께 여행을 떠남으로써 유아의 예술적 세계를 확장하도록 도울 수 있다는 점에서 그 교육적 의의를 가진다.
Abstract
Picture-books are used most frequently in early childhood classrooms and they play an important role for both children and teachers by enabling them to interact physically and mentally in distant realms. Picture-books provide young children with a 'space to create meanings' which would otherwise be unknown to them. Through picture-books, children experience the space of fantasy and imagination that often guide them to enter into a joyful aesthetic world between the real and the unreal. In order to make this possible, it is important for early childhood teachers to read and understand picture-books from an aesthetic perspective. Teachers can utilize picture-book so that they become a 'field of amorphous meaning' and 'field of aesthetic interpretation' for young children. This study investigates the power of picture-books from an aesthetic viewpoint by analyzing various aesthetics elements contained in the 2005' Caldecott Award book, "Knuffle Bunney". The aesthetic elements of the picture-book in this study include a sense of form, inner state of beauty, a beauty of epistemology, and sublime sense of beauty. This study will be able to help early childhood teachers develop their own sense of beauty so that they can help young children enjoy the rich and fascinating world of aesthetics through picture-books.
