유아교육과정 통합의 근거와 형태 탐색: Forgarty 모형을 중심으로

유아교육과정에서 ‘통합’의 개념은 유아교육과정의 특성이자 매우 당연한 개념이다. 그러나 통합의 내용과 방법의 근거는 미흡하다고 보여진다. 통합의 개념은 무엇이며 언제부터 유아교육과정에 담겨오기 시작했는지? 그리고 유아교육과정과 통합은 어떻게 관련되어 있으며 그 근거와 형태는 무엇인가? 와 같은 인식에 기초한 지속적 탐색이 요구된다. 본 연구는 이와 같은 문제의식에서 출발하여 가장 종합적으로 교육과정 통합을 설명하고 있는 Forgarty의 모형을 근거로 유아교육과정 통합의 근거와 형태를 분석·적용하였다. 10개의 모형은 단절형, 연관형, 동심원형(단일교과 내에서의 통합), 계열형, 공유형, 거미형, 실로 꿰어진 모형, 통합형, 몰입형, 네트워크형(학습자간의 통합)이며 이와 같은 탐색과 논의는 앞으로 우리나라 유아교육과정 통합의 이론적 실제적 탐구의 기초를 제공할 수 있을 것이다.
Abstract
In early childhood curriculum, the concept of 'integration' is a characteristic of early childhood curriculum and is considered indisputable. However, the grounds for the content and methods of integration do not appear solid. This study grew out of questions concerning the meaning of integration in terms of how the concept has been introduced to early childhood curriculum historically, how integration is related to early childhood curriculum, what the grounds for that relationship are and what forms integration has taken. Starting from these questions, this study examines Forgarty's models, which explain curriculum integration most comprehensively, and analyzes the rationales and forms of early childhood curriculum integration suggested in the models. The 10 models are fragmented, connected, nested (integration within a single curriculum), sequenced, shared, webbed, threaded, integrated, immersed and networked (integration of learners). These inquiries and discussions provide a base for theoretical and practical research on the integration of early childhood curriculum in Korea.
