Abstract
The purpose of this study is to develop a social education program using a self-directed learning method and to investigate its effect on young children's self-regulation ability. To achieve this purpose, a social education program was composed using a self-directed learning model, which has been concluded after examining a great number of foreign and domestic researches and papers. In order to investigate the effectiveness of program, forty eight children with age of 5 were selected from a private kindergarten located in Y city, Gyeonggido. Of these twenty four children were assigned as experimental group and twenty four children as comparative group. During the observation, children of the experimental group were given with a self-directed social education program including the following components: 1) topic introducing; 2) experiencing; 3) planning; 4) executing; and 5) evaluating while children of the comparative group were given a regular social education program. In conclusion, the social education program using self-directed learning method in this study demonstrates its positive impact on promoting young children’s self-regulation ability. This result also implies the possibility of applying social education program using self-directed learning method for a program that promotes young children's self-regulation ability.
