남아와 여아에 대한 유아교사의 담화 분석

본 연구는 유아교실에서 유아들의 성정체성 문제를 발달적, 구조적, 생물학적으로 이해하는 것을 넘어 사회, 문화, 역사와 개인의 주관성을 고려한 다원적으로 접근할 필요성에 따라 교실에서의 유아 성에 따른 교사의 담화를 분석하였다. 결과 첫째, 교사는 남아에게 더 많은 담화를 사용하며 비지시형태의 담화보다 지시형태의 담화를 더 많이 사용하고 있다. 둘째, 비지시형 담화에서 교사는 생각 및 감정의 수용의 담화를 많이 사용하고 있었지만, 그 내용은 유아의 생각과 감정을 명료화하는 단순한 형태의 담화였으며, 담화 유형에 상관없이 지시형 담화 모두는 유아의 행동을 통제하고 교사가 원하는 규칙을 반복하고 알려주는 내용이었다. 특히나 여아보다 남아에게 통제를 위한 담화를 많이 사용하며 오로지 남아에게만 문책, 처벌, 비난 등의 내용을 가진 형태의 담화를 사용하였다. 결국 교사는 남아와 더 많은 언어적 상호작용을 하나, 그 내용은 지시적이고 통제적인 부정적인 형태였음을 알 수 있었다.
Abstract
Gender identity is a many-faceted, developmental, biologically and socially determined, self-defining concept. In an effort to ascertain how teachers’ discourse styles might affect children’s developing conceptualizations of gender identity, one classroom was chosen for observation and analysis. Results reveal that the study’s early childhood teachers had more interaction with boys than with girls. Negative interaction especially was much more frequent with boys than with girls. These finding are discussed in terms of equity and equality for both genders.
