Abstract

This study examines the developmental relations of preschoolers’ relational aggression and peer rejection. Participants were three year old children recruited from preschools and day care centers. Peer rejection was measured by peer nomination and teachers completed measurement of relational aggression. The findings suggest that relational aggression is consistently stable during preschool years. For boys, relational aggression at the age of four has statistically significant effect on peer rejection by age five. For girls, relational aggression at age three has statistically significant effect on peer rejection at age four. In conclusion, these results should be considered in planning interventions targeting rejected preschoolers.
