초록

While adolescence is a healthy period physically compared to childhood and adulthood, it is one of the most difficult stages emotionally to understand and reconcile. Along with biological changes such as physical growth and hormonal changes, it is a period with heightened emotional development. Physical and emotional development can lead to establishment of identity, which ultimately leads to a personality that lasts a lifetime. Adolescents also develop their own values and philosophies. To communicate with adolescents in psychiatric clinical practice, a textbook is needed to understand and approach emotions of adolescents as they develop as a whole. In this regard, “Inside Out 2,” an animation that names and visualizes emotions of adolescent girls, can be a very useful tool for understanding them. In “Inside Out 1,” Joy, Fear, Sadness, Anger, and Disgust were primary emotions of childhood. For teens in “Inside Out 2,” Anxiety, Embarrassment, Ennui, and Envy were added as secondary emotions, suggesting that nostalgia could appear in the near future. In childhood, Joy played a dominant role in the emotional control panel. However, “Inside Out 1” highlighted the importance of Sadness and harmony among emotions. In “Inside Out 2,” newly emerging emotions of adolescence and existing childhood emotions went through a chaotic journey but eventually came to understand each other and found their respective roles. Additionally, building upon the self that began forming in childhood, the protagonist navigated the key developmental task of adolescence—establishing identity.
