Abstract
This study explores how living and learning program(LLP) can create a learning community in residence halls, what effects it may generate on students specifically. A qualitative case study method is applied to a single private university in Korea which is converting its conventional residence halls to LLP stepwise from 2011. The ecological perspective is used as a conceptual framework in order to investigate the deep interaction between LLP system as one of important campus environment and students. The analysis demonstrates that the conversion to LLP facilitated development of security and inclusion, participation and the spirit of contribution of students. The four types of LLP environment was found to have contributed to created those effects. Based on the analysis, the ways to design LLP environment meeting their educational goals were discussed.
