Advertising can be defined as the structured and composed nonpersonal communication of information, usually paid for and usually persuasive in nature, about products. That is, advertising is communication and it is persuasive in nature. In fact, communication happens to be the primary function of language and language can also be persuasive. In this respect, this study has examined the functions of language and the relation between language and thought, because it is commonly observed that the manner in which an idea or fact is stated affects the way we conceptualize the idea. In other words, language shapes our lives. And the advertising world is a prime example of the use of language to shape, persuade, and dissuade. After that, this study has looked at the general characteristics of the names of Korean cars in terms of the number of words and specific languages used in them, and then approached the names in the light of phonetic, morphological and semantic dimensions.
