Abstract
The purpose of this study is to investigate the determinants of Korean ventures' born-global focusing on their founders, technological resources, and networks. Based on the sample of 149 Korean ventures, we found that founders’ international experience and organizational networks are more important than technological resources as determinants of pursing born-global strategy. Additional analyses revealed that those ventures with founders who have work-related international experience are more likely to become born-global. We also found that the propensity to become born-global is positively related to the numbers of organizational networks for international marketing/ sales, but negatively related to those for international sourcing. Taken together, the results of this study emphasize the need to consider the types and characteristics, rather than existence, of founders’ international experience and organizational networks in order to better understand the phenomena of born-global.
