Abstract

Air Transport Industry has developed rapidly in the past decades owing to the reduction of transportation cost and the increase of demand for air transport. However, the air transport industry has not been researched a lot. Most studies have been focused on marine transport industry and bill of lading. Consequently, I suggest that many researches should be done on the air transport industry and air transport documents. Uniform Customs and Practice for Documentary Credits(UCP 500) has only one article regarding air transport document, i.e. article 27(air transport document). But this article has incurred a lot of confusion in terms of interpretation of air transport documents. To solve this difficult situations, International Chamber of Commerce published International Standard Banking Practice for the Examination of Documents(ISBP) in 2002. It explains how the practices articulated in the UCP are to be applied by documentary practitioners. This paper researches UCP 500 article 27 and twenty six paragraphs of ISBP for the interpretation of air transport documents.
