Abstract
The purpose of this study is to examine the relationship between local ESG, digital capabilities and financial performance with the interaction effect of digital capabilities of MNC local subsidiaries on the relationships between their local ESG and financial performance. This study uses attribution theory, resource based perspective and stakeholder perspective to conceptualize local ESG and digital capabilities of MNC subsidiaries in Korea. Empirical analysis was conducted based on survey data collected from MNC subsidiaries operating in Korea. This study found that both local ESG and digital capabilities of local subsidiaries have positive impact on financial performance. As for the interaction effect, their digital capabilities moderates negatively the relationship between local ESG management and financial performance surprisingly. This finding sheds light on the relationship between local ESG and digital capabilities of local subsidiaries not a complementary goods but an alternative goods relationship in international business perspective.
