연쇄살인사건 해결을 위한 지리학적 프로파일링의 활용방안

최근 한국에서도 엽기적 연쇄살인사건이 빈번하게 발생하고 있지만, 이러한 사건들을 해결하기 위한 과학적 수사체계 혹은 기법이 미흡하다. 미국, 영국, 캐나다 등지에서는 오래 전부터 FBI 등을 중심으로 전문화된 수사체제(VICAP, ViCLAS, HITS 등)와 소위 프로파일러(Profiler)라고 불리는 전문인력들이 활약하고 있다. 또한 범행현장에 유류된 심리적 증거와 심리학적 증거를 통하여 범인의 윤곽을 추정하는 Criminal Profiling기법이라든가 범인의 주거지/생활근거지와 범행현장과의 관련성을 지리적으로 압축시켜주는 Geographic Profiling 기법이 일선 수사현장에서 적극적으로 활용되고 있다. 특히 범인과 피해자가 최초로 조우한 장소(PFE), 사체를 유기한 장소(BD), 범행을 저지른 장소 및 범인의 주거지(Home)간에는 일정한 규칙성이 발견되고 있다는 점이다. 본 논문에서는 환경범죄학적 관점에서 연쇄살인사건을 해석하고, 범인을 추정하는 데 유용한 수사기법을 소개한다.
Abstract
Recently it is not uncommon that notorious serial murder cases are happened in Korea as well as other countries. To investigate these serious cases, experts and specialized technique are very needed. In America, England, and Canada there are many specialized systems, for example, VICAP, ViCLAS, HITS etc, which are useful and essential to serial murder investigation and numerous expert profilers play an important role in these cases. In particular, criminal(or behavioral) profiling and geographic profiling are actively utilized in the field of serial offender investigation. According to various researches, it has been strongly proved that there is distantly regular correlation among Victim's Points of Fatal Encounters, Victim's Body Dump Site, Crime Scene and Offender's Home. In this study, from the standpoint of environmental criminology I will introduce and compare effective investigation skill and idea.
