본 논문은 아가에 나타난 사랑의 개념이 단순한 시적 표현이 아니라 인지적으로 구조화된 개념임을 밝히고, 이를 통해 사랑에 대한 새로운 의미 구성이 어떻게 이루어지는지를 고찰하는 데 목적을 둔다. 특히 기존의 사랑 프레임을 해체하거나 전복하기보다는, 아가가 기존 프레임을 수용하면서도 새로운 역할과 감각을 덧입혀 의미를 확장하고 있음을 밝힌다. 이를 위해 본 연구는 인지언어학의 개념적 은유 이론과 프레임 의미론을 이론적 틀로 삼아 분석을 수행하였다. 사랑이라는 추상 개념이 다양한 근원영역(source domain)을 통해 구체화되는 방식을 살피고, 각 은유의 프레임이 본문에서 어떻게 재구성(reframing)되는지를 중심으로 고찰하였다. 연구는 먼저 아가에 등장하는 주요 사랑 은유들을 ‘여정’, ‘전쟁’, ‘불’ 등의 근원영역에 따라 분석하였다. 이후 각 프레임 안에서 여성 화자의 주체성, 감각의 확장, 신적 의미의 내포 등이 어떻게 나타나는지를 구체적인 본문 분석을 통해 제시하였다. 그 결과 아가는 고대 근동의 전통적 사랑 개념을 반영함과 동시에, 그 의미를 새롭게 리프레임하며 확장하는 출발점으로 기능함을 확인할 수 있었다. 본 연구는 인지언어학을 통해 고대 성서 본문의 해석 가능성을 넓히고, 나아가 젠더 담론 및 신학적 해석에도 새로운 방향을 제시한다.
Abstract
This study investigates the concept of love in the Song Songs not as a mere poetic expression but as a cognitively structured construct. The primary aim is to explore how the text enables a reconfiguration of the meaning of love by expanding existing frames rather than subverting or dismantling them. The Song of Songs appropriates conventional love frames while simultaneously enriching them with new roles and sensory dimensions. To this end, the analysis employs two central frameworks form cognitive linguistics: Conceptual Metaphor Theory and Frame Semantics. By examining how the abstract concept of love is concretized through various source domains—such as journey, warfare, and fire—this study highlights the mechanisms of metaphorical reframing within the text. The research first categorizes key love metaphors according to their respective source domains and then analyzed how these frames are restructured in the text, paying particular attention to the agency of the female speaker, the expansion of sensory imagery, and the embedded theological implications. The findings suggest that the Song of Songs reflects ancient Near Eastern conceptions of love while simultaneously serving as a point of departure for reframing and extending those meanings. This study contributes to the broader field of biblical interpretation by demonstrating how cognitive linguistic approaches can open new avenues for textual analysis, particularly in relation to gender discourse and theological hermeneutics.
