한국 근대 문학과 ‘민족’(民族)이라는 상상 공동체-민족주의적 정열, 혹은 한국 근대문학 형성의 주동력

본고는 근대문학 형성의 주된 동력이 ‘민족’ 공동체를 불러일으키는 상상의 힘으로 주어졌다는 베네딕트 앤더슨의 『상상의 공동체』이론에 입각하여 한국 근대 문학의 초창기 상태를 짚어본 것이다. 『상상의 공동체』이론에 의하면, ‘민족’이라는 상상의 공동체를 지각케 함에 있어서 근대소설을 위시한 근대문학의 장치들, 넓은 의미에서 인쇄 자본주의의 기제가 효과적으로 기능한 것으로 파악되며, 한국 근대문학의 경우에도 이 사정은 예외가 아니었다. 가령 이광수의 「무정」이나, 염상섭의 「만세전」 등 한국 근대 소설사의 대표 작품들을 따져볼 때 그러하며, 주요한, 한용운, 김소월, 이상화, 정지용 등 초창기 한국 근대 시사의 대표 시인들 경우를 따져볼 때 또한 그러하다. 한국 근대 비평의 경우에도 그 과도기적 초석자의 역할을 수행했다고 할 수 있는 신채호의 경우를 따져볼 때 마찬가지로 그러하다. 본고에서 구체적으로 점검하지는 않았지만, 한국 근대 희곡의 경우에도 역시 마찬가지일 것이다. 이처럼 근대문학이란 본질적으로 민족 공동체를 상상케 하고, 지각케 하는 힘을 바탕으로 성장하였거니와, 작가와 독자, 그리고 연구자를 포함한 문학 공동체 전체의 상황 속에서 ‘근대문학’이란 말하자면 일종의 기호 공동체, 혹은 해석 공동체의 성격으로서 문화적 공모의 성질을 짙게 발현하는 의미체의 기제임을 알 수 있다.
Abstract
This thesis is an outcoming of the considering(,considered) on the theory of 'Imagined communities' written by Benedict Anderson of America. He emphasized that modern 'printed capitalism', which is modern public sphere of communicative system including modern literature, magazine and newspaper, fulfilled its roll in a large scale to make a 'nation community'. In other words, the modern printed culture system was very effective to produce a imagined community, which is a 'nation community'. From this theoretical viewpoint, we can examine that the system of modern literature was one of effective mechanics to call a nation community to mind of nation people. According to above theory, we investigated the representative works of Korean modern literary history. So first of all, we examined the novel work 「Mujeong」of I-Kwangsoo, and 「ManSe-Jeon」of Yeom-Sangseop. And then, we examined the important works in early times of Korean modern poetic history, for example Ju-Yohan's 「Bulnory」, and after then, we investigated the historical meaning of Shin-Chae-Ho's critical writing. Hitherto we reconformed the deep relation of modern literature and the producing of ‘a imagined community', that is ’a modern nation community'.
