만주국 재현 서사의 딜레마, 혹은 해석의 난경 -현경준의 소설을 중심으로-

이 연구는 「유맹」을 비롯해 현경준의 만주 재현 서사를 중심으로 만주국이 주도하는 ‘개심(改心)’과 ‘갱생’의 기획이 어떻게 구현되고, 혹은 실패하는가를 추적함으로써 궁극적으로 만주국이라는 폭력적 인공국가의 역사적 한계를 고찰하는 데 목적이 있다. 만주국은 발전국가체제, 사회동원과 신체의 규율화 등의 측면에서 이후 남북한의 국가주의 발전에 중요한 영향을 미쳤던 ‘속성 인공국가’이다. ‘갱생’을 목적으로 범법자와 마약중독자들을 공동부락에 집단 수용하여 교화시킨다는 「유맹」시리즈의 서사는 만주국의 ‘속성’ 국민 만들기 프로젝트의 구상을 함축하고 있다. 그러나 제도적 규율과 ‘건강한’ 이데올로기가 ‘불건강한’ 개인의 정신과 육체를 개조할 수 있다는 ‘계발의 기획’이 일사불란하게 성공하는 것은 아님을 동시에 보여준다. 당시 만주의 일본인 작가들에게도 만주국의 전체주의 이데올로기가 유포하는 유토피아적 환상은 경계의 대상이었다. 그런 차원에서 만주국의 건국 이념을 반영하는 ‘신징(新京)이데올로기’를 거부하며 시국에 대한 허무와 불안, 회의를 반영했던 ‘따롄(大蓮)이데올로기’는 일종의 저항체로 역할 하였다. 만주국이 표면에 내세우는 ‘왕도낙토’의 이데올로기와 희생정신으로 무장한 교화자들의 계몽주의는 가난과 범죄, 아편중독의 세계에서 소멸해갔던 당시의 ‘유맹’ 들에게 하나의 ‘진실’한 접근일 수 있다. 그러나 ‘감시와 처벌’의 병영국가 시스템으로 ‘갱생’의 ‘자율적 주체’를 탄생시킨다는 것은 분명 ‘거짓’이다. ‘거짓 이데올로기’에의 ‘동원’을 거부하는 ‘자멸’은 그래서 ‘저항’이 된다. 현경준의 「유맹」 시리즈는 만주국의 ‘유맹’이 처한 이러한 비극적 풍경을 포착하고 있으며, 이는 만주국 재현 서사가 처한 딜레마의 지점을 근본적으로 제기한다는 점에서 의미를 발견할 수 있다. 요컨대 이 글은 국책의 현실적 구현을 욕망하면서도 동시에 지배 이데올로기에 균열을 가함으로써 그 자체가 만주국의 딜레마, 혹은 만주국 재현 서사의 딜레마를 체현한 현경준의 소설을 정독함으로써, 이분법적 인식과 담론으로 구획해낸 한국근현대문학의 독법을 지양할 수 있는 가능성을 탐색하고자 하였다.
Abstract
This paper tried to rethink historic limits and problems of violent artificial state. through tracing the process which project of reformation and rehabilitation leaded by Manchukuo(Manchu state) had beeb realized and failed ,focusing on narratives of representing Manchuria in Hyun Kyungjun works including Yumaeng(流氓). Manchkuo was the short course artificial state influencing nationalist development of South Korea and North Korea, in the sense that Manchukou had assumed a developmental state system and social mobilization, and discipline system of human body. Narrative housing drug addicts and criminals at a community town in oder to rehabilitate them in 'Yumaeng' series, shows Machukuo project of making 'short course' nation by implication and also its fail. At that time, even Japanese writers couldn't have not a doubt of utopia illusion spread by Manchukuo' totalitarian ideology. Revealing nihilistic idea, anxiety and skepticism, 'Dalia(大連) ideology’ was as a role of counter discourse protesting gainst 'Sinjing(新京) ideology'. Machukuo's catch phrase Royal Heaven(王道樂土) ideology and enlightenment of culturist with a thoroughly a sprit of self-sacrifice was out of touch with truth or reality of 'wandering people'(流氓) whom poverty, criminal and drug addition exhausted and erased. Self-destruction was a attitude of rejecting and resisting fundamentally mobilization project supporting 'false ideology', because the idea of garrison state system of 'surveillance and punishment' create 'autonomous subject' is a dawnlight lie. Hyun Kyungjun's Yumeang series graped the tragedy landscape of nomadic people Yumeang very well, which showed fundamental dilemma of narratives representing Manchukuo that couldn't help witnessing and expressing craves in ruling ideology at same time though longing for realization of state policy. His novels suggests the reading method of sublating dichotomous episteme and discourse of collaboration vs resistance in reading the modern Korean literatures.
