Abstract

This paper is a study on the repetition and difference in Kim Soo-young's poetry. Particularly, it focuses on the repetition and variation patterns in the sentence layer, targeting the period before the 1960s. The purpose of this paper is to analyze concrete aspects of repetition and variation appearing in poetry before the 4 · 19 revolution, to clarify that repetition and difference are closely related to semantic and syntactic levels in his poetry. To this end, I will examine Kim Soo-young's thoughts on sentences as a intermediating point between repetition and difference, and examine their characteristics by dividing into repetition of the same phrase and non-identical repetition according to the pattern of repetition. First, in the case of repetition of the same phrase, I will analyze how the repetition of two consecutive repetitions and repetition of ‘sumissangkwoan鳨徐騫餮’ causes ta new meaning. In the case of non-identical repetition, the specific pattern will be analyzed by dividing into repetition by substitution of specific words and repetition by proliferation of modifiers. Based on this, I will discuss how repetition spreads layer by layer through the creation of differences in “눈uœ•” and “폭포~ˆ›Œ™ˆ““”, the representative works of this period. Through this analysis, we can confirm that repetition and difference are not only methods for reinforcing the poetic meaning, but also as devices that implement poetic rhythm in his poetry. Finally, this paper has significance as a basic work for a full-scale analysis of the rhythm of Kim Soo-young's poetry.
