힌데미트의 <관현악을 위한 협주곡 Op. 38>은 20세기 관현악 협주곡에 관한 언급에서 늘 첫 번째로 등장하는 작품이다. 이 작품은 1925년에 완성되었으며 이 시기는 새로운 객관성(Neue Sachlichkeit)이라는 경향이 예술에서 등장하였던 시기와 맞물린다. 이 시기에 작곡된 그의 기악작품들은 절충주의적이 되면서 다양한 양식에서 그 모델을 찾았다. 그리고 이 작품은 바로크적인 특징이 나타나는 작품으로 종종 바흐의 합주 협주곡 작품과 비교되기도 한다. 본 논문에서는 힌데미트의 <관현악을 위한 협주곡 Op. 38>과 작곡 시기가 비슷한 협주곡 유형의 작품들인 <실내음악>과 <콘서트음악>까지 그 연구의 범위를 확장하여 이들 작품에서 나타나는 협주곡의 성격과 <관현악을 위한 협주곡 Op.38>의 특징을 비교하여 작품의 제목에 있는 ‘협주곡’의 의미를 고찰해본다.
Abstract
Hindemith’s “Concerto for Orchestra, Op. 38” is always the first work to appear in the 20th century reference to orchestral concertos. The work was completed in 1925 and coincides with the emergence of a new trend of “Neue Sachlichkeit” in art scene. His instrumental works, composed during this period, became more compromising and sought out the model in various styles from early days. And this work has Baroque characteristics and is often compared to Bach’s concerto grosso works. In this paper, the scope of our research is extended to include Hindemith’s Kammermusik and Konzertmusik, which are concerto-type works composed in 1920s, along with “Concerto for Orchestra, Op. 38”. And compare the characteristics of the ‘concerto’ in these works with those of “Concerto for Orchestra, Op. 38” to consider the meaning of “Concerto” in the title of the work. It is also expected that this will make the genre of the work more clear.
