Mendelssohn's Other Concerto: the Changing Reception of the Piano Concerto no. 2, op. 40, in D minor

멘델스존의 피아노 콘체르토 Op. 25 G단조와 Op. 40 D단조는 19세기에 널리 연주되었지만 시대에 따라 매우 엇갈리는 평가를 받아왔다. 19세기의 비평서부터 20세기의 여러 학문적 자료들을 토대로 이 두 작품이 많은 특징들을 공유하는데도 불구하고 엇갈리는 평가를 받은 이유를 찾아보았다. 특히 Op. 40의 쇠망에 관하여 이전 작품과의 상관성, 여성 피아니스트를 채용한 페미니즘적 사고, 멘델스존의 결혼, 그리고 작곡가로서 예술적으로 쇠퇴하였다는 소문 등 여러 정황을 통해 살펴보았다.
