Abstract
This paper aims to examine the emergence and spread of the concept of 'diverse forms of families' through the United Nations(UN) and the crisis of legitimizing same-sex marriage it entails. With the advent of feminism in the 1960s, gender conflicts have worsened; and from the 1990s onwards, with the emergence of gender ideology, the distinction between sexes has become blurred, which has provided theoretical grounds for the legalization of homosexuality. This trend has spread globally through the UN, and in the 1990s, as sexual orientation and gender identity emerged as human rights, attempts to distort the concept of family were detected. In the case of South Korea, through the establishment of the National Human Rights Commission, influenced by international conferences held by the UN, efforts to legalize homosexuality or same-sex marriage have persisted. Not only through legislation but also by reinterpreting the concept of family with the plausible term 'diverse forms of families,' there are attempts to naturally accept same-sex marriage. However, amidst the societal chaos and confusion, the importance of family needs to be emphasized more than ever. At a time when society is in disarray, families that provide stability, care, love, dedication, and responsibility based on marriage and kinship are more urgently needed than ever. Such a social safety net should never be distorted or corrupted by biased ideologies or selfish claims of individual rights.
