대학생의 수업 외 활동이 학업중단 의도에 미치는 영향 분석: 대학몰입의 매개효과를 중심으로

초록

이 연구의 목적은 Tinto의 학업중단 이론 모형을 토대로 대학생의 수업 외 활동, 대학몰입, 학업중 단 의도의 관계를 실증적으로 검증하는 것이다. 이를 위해, 구조방정식모형(SEM)을 활용하여 ‘한국 교육종단연구2005’의 7, 8차년도 조사에 참여한 국내 4년제 일반 대학 재학생 1,794명을 분석하 였다. 분석결과, 대학생의 수업 외 활동은 대학몰입을 매개로 학업중단 의도에 영향을 주는 것으로 나타났다. 구체적으로, 첫째, 교수와의 교류활동은 학업중단 의도를 직접적으로 높이며, 대학몰입을 거쳐 학업중단 의도를 낮추는 간접효과가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 교우와의 교류활동은 대학 몰입을 거쳐 학업중단 의도를 낮추는 부적인 간접효과가 있는 것으로 나타났으며 대학몰입은 완전 매개효과가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 비교과 프로그램은 편입 의도를 증가시키는 정적인 직접 효과가 있는 것으로 나타났으며 대학몰입은 매개효과가 없는 것으로 나타났다. 넷째, 근로 활동은 학업중단 의도에 직･간접효과가 없으며 대학몰입은 매개효과가 없는 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 결과를 바탕으로 연구의 시사점을 논의하였다.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to confirm the structural relationship between college students’ out-of-class activities, institutional commitment and intention to institutional departure based on the Tinto’s student integration model. To achieve research objectives, data from the 7th year(2011) and 8th year(2012) of Korean Educational Longitudinal Study(KEDI) 2005 were used. The final sample consisting of 1,794 college students who entered university in 2011 and participated in its 7th and 8th surveys was analyzed by using structural equation modeling. The major findings are as follows: First, student-faculty interaction had a positive direct effect and a negative indirect effect on the intention to departure. Institutional commitment had a suppression effect. Second, peer interaction had a negative indirect effect on the intention to departure. Institutional commitment had a full mediating effect. Third, extra-curricular programs had a positive direct effect on the intention to transfer while institutional commitment had no mediating effect. Fourth, work experiences had no effect on the intention to departure. Institutional commitment had no mediating effect. Based on these conclusions, theoretical and practical implications were discussed.
