Abstract

The purpose of this study is to identify the needs and difficulties of Deaf-Blind in daily life, and to provide basic data for preparing measures to support them. To do this, the results of this study were analyzed using a mixed methodology that simultaneously conducts in - depth interviews and quantitative surveys according to the degree of disability of the 24 deaf-blind people with both visual and hearing impairments. As a result, regarding movement, most of the participants in the study were shown to be able to move at the near distance by walking training, it was found that 37.5% of the respondents answered that they could move only in the house, and there were many difficulties to go out alone because they felt dizzy during walking. With respect to communication, sending a text message in how to communicate with the other party accounted for the largest portion by 45.8% in total but 33.4% of the respondents said that they were unable to convey their opinions to the other party, Hearing-based Deaf-Blind People had the greatest difficulty in communication compared to other groups of deaf-blind people so it became almost impossible to communicate with others. Information access had a significant effect on the degree of residual vision, no residual vision, and those who are able to use Braille obtained information primarily through Braille information terminals. Finally, their main needs were movement support, communication support, Braille information terminal deployment, and self - help groups. Based on the results of this analysis, it is possible to expand the time for activity support service and increase manpower and additional benefits for gait training and movement support for movement support, to develop and disseminate manual such as training, dispatching, setting up an opportunity for specialists for communication of deaf-blind people for communication support, and to expand the use of Braille information terminals, self-help groups, and support centers for information access.
