Abstract
Along with celadon and white porcelain based on literary tastes, the Song Dynasty’s condensed porcelain is an important factor that constitutes the Song Dynasty’s ceramic culture and is an important evidence of the diversity of Song Dynasty society. Nevertheless, the lead-glazed ceramics of the Song Dynasty were considered to be a folk taste because of their poor quality compared to other major kiln products, and did not receive much attention. Therefore, this study focused on the Song Dynasty lead-glaze porcelain, which has been overlooked, and examined the production area, manufacturing technical issues, and further consumption patterns. Celadon and white porcelain with the taste of literary class have established themselves as the mainstream of Song Dynasty Ceramics. At the same time, it can be seen that the lead-glazed porcelain of the Song dynasty was technologically more advanced than the lead-glazed porcelain of the Tang dynasty, and it was already favored by the demand for daily containers, burial goods, and ritual goods. The expanded production scale compared to the Tang Dynasty proves that the demand for lead-glazed porcelain in the Song Dynasty increased, and it is confirmed that the consumption class was also widely used from the upper classes to the common people. In addition, the lead-glazed porcelain of the Song Dynasty shows differences in excavation patterns by region. For example, in the north, daily necessities are mainly, while in the south, excavations of burial items such as theft are overwhelmingly large. In particular, the emergence of Taoist icons such as monks, Buddhas, human body with horse head(馬首人身)ㆍhuman body with bird head(鳥首人身)ㆍsnake body with human head(人首蛇身), and 12 zodiac signs is understood as a result of the spread of ideas that harmonized Confucianism and Buddhism according to the political rule and judgment of the Song Dynasty court. In particular, the historical background in which the Taoist religion was widely common as the origin of Taoism can be cited as the background for the emergence of Taoist iconography in the Sichuan(四川) region. Furthermore, this is the point where the transportation routes between the South and the North meet, and the Sancai(三彩) Pottery Figures and funeral culture that were prevalent in the north-central part of the Tang Dynasty can be transferred to the south, and it can be seen as the result of the fusion of the culture of the north and south.
