Abstract

This study examined whether the effects of disability acceptance on life satisfaction are mediated by subjective health perception and self-esteem, and whether these pathways differ according to the level of social networks among people with disabilities. Using data from the 5th wave of the Panel Survey on the Life of Persons with Disabilities, a multi-group structural equation modeling analysis was conducted. The results showed that the indirect effect of disability acceptance on life satisfaction through subjective health perception was significant in both high and low social network groups, with a stronger effect in the low network group. In contrast, the mediating effects of self-esteem and the sequential mediation of subjective health perception and self-esteem were significant only in the low network group. These findings suggest that psychological protective resources play a more crucial role in shaping life satisfaction among individuals with limited social networks, whereas abundant social resources may compensate for psychological vulnerability and contribute more directly to life satisfaction. Therefore, differentiated support strategies that consider social resource levels are necessary to promote the quality of life among people with disabilities.
