Abstract

This article delineates the process of the development of the diaspora mission movement which has been started by the Lausanne Movement since its beginning. Also from biblical, historical and missiological perspective it reflects the fresh and robust understandings of others, and the meaning of genuine hospitality and radical neighborliness among the migrant people living in the Korean society. Lastly it suggests the principles and appropriate mission strategies of mission to migrant people in the Korean society. The Lausanne slogan, “The whole church taking the whole gospel to the whole world,”contains the robust missiological principle of unchanging gospel in the changing world. in terms of the changing world, especially a phenomenon of global migration, the Lausanne’s concern to its implication is presented in “Manila Manifesto” and “the Cape Town Commitment.” Especially a concrete concern for diaspora mission of the Lausanne Movement has begun in the Pattaya Forum held by the Lausanne Movement in 2004. In this forum diaspora issue group has been formed and Diaspora Leadership Team was officially organized in LCWE. Through several Lausanne consultations the discussions on diaspora missiology was deepened in the 3rd Lausanne Congress and finally Global Diaspora Network has been organized. As a result, articles on diaspora missiology have been presented at Global Diaspora Forum held in Manila in March 2015 and GDN published the book, Scattered and Gathered: A Global Compendium of Diaspora Missiology in 2016. In fact, the Cape Town Commitment proposes an evangelical missiological reflection on missio Dei and contains missional ecclesiology at various level. From that point, the Lausanne theology embraces the holistic perspective based on missio Dei and points out the meaning of genuine hospitality and radical neighborliness to the migrant people as global diaspora people. In this respect, it can be evaluated as a foundation for the construction of a genuine diaspora missiology as well as diaspora ministry. On the basis of deep reflection on the formative process of diaspora missiology and ministry, the Korean church would be taking the following mission strategies and missiological stance for the diaspora people: 1) Be receptive and understanding the global phenomenon of migration and try to overcome biases toward other cultures and people group and taking incarnational lifestyle; 2) Not treat the migrant people who live in our next doorstep as objective of missions, but regarding them as our neighbor being cared and living together; 3) Conduct careful research for the context of the local church facing the migrant and from a holistic perspective trying to develop the ways of filling their spiritual, mental and physical needs; 4) In order to do effective diaspora ministry, mobilize and equip believers of the local church(appropriate mission strategy); 5) Construct programs of seminaries and platform for diaspora ministry for mission agencies to share paradigms of diaspora ministry; 6) Encourage migrant church leaders to continuously construct discipleship programs for reverse mission work for them to reach their friends and relatives in their homeland as well as make a plan for migrant mission in host country; 7) Help the migrant people establish their own churches and attempt to make a genuine partnership with them to train missionaries; 8) Encourage the migrant churches to construct networks with Korean diaspora churches and Korean missionaries in mission fields; and 9) Try to establish indigenized and contextualized migrant churches that enable to be three self principles and self theologizing and self missiologizing church(to provide a platform for peaceful leadership transfer).
