Abstract
This article examines two recent Korean sci-fi films Lucid Dream and Memories. First, I confirm that these movies transpose the concept of dreams with cyberspace and reflect the deconstruction of physical subjectivity in the digital society. Second, these movies depict human desire to overcome the constraints of material life and show successful subjugation through the utilization of digital subjectivity in the virtual world. The films especially emphasize how alienation caused by social media is solved by this technological development, illustrating the intrinsic nature of technology to be value-neutral. Third, the films show a compulsive aversion to the virtual dimension, limiting the function of the space as tools to solve the real world’s problems. I attest that this stems from the fear of void interaction and solidity in the virtual world.
