Abstract
This study analyzes voters’ evaluations of televised debates during the 7th local elections in Korea. In particular, this article focuses on how voters evaluate the fairness of debate presiding and the information acquisition through viewing TV debates. I argue that viewers’ political predispositions and electoral conditions can influence their evaluations of TV debates. To test the arguments, this study analyzes survey results after the election. The regression results of this study generally support the arguments. For instance, voters who support for the current president tend to evaluate TV debates positively. Also, as elections become more competitive, viewers are more likely to evaluate the effectiveness of information acquisition through viewing TV debates in a negative manner.
