Abstract

This study cataloged the film production articles of the ≪Jeonbuk Ilbo≫ in the 1950s and 1960s to describe the history of film production in Jeonbuk, and looked at the history of film production in Jeollabuk, focusing on the data. The production of <Broken Route(끊어진 항로)> and <Breaking Through the Wall(성벽을 뚫고)>, which were filmed mainly in the Gunsan area after 1945, introduced the production method of haf-private and half-government in the 1950s and brought local artists into the film industry. <Love Mountains(애정산맥)>, directed by Lee Manheung in 1952, was filmed with the support of the Jeonbuk Police. Kim Jonghwan and Jo Jingu from the Jeonbuk Police Agency’s Public Relations Division joined the production process. They later worked as screenwriters. <Arirang(아리랑)>, Lee Kangcheon’s debut as a director in 1954, was a film produced by Jo Jingu’s screenplay and Jeonju Baekdo Theater manager Kim Yeongchang who established ‘Blue Dragon Production (Cheongryong Production)’. Most of the staff who participated in the production of <Arirang> participated in the production of <Piagol> in 1955. <Piagol> was problematic during the censorship process, but it became an opportunity to confirm the possibility of regional film production. As a result, filmmakers who had been active in the Jeonbuk region moved to Seoul to continue their work, or stayed in the region to continue their film production activities and produced <Princess Seonhwa(선화공주)> (1957). Articles on film production in the ≪Jeonbuk Ilbo≫ in the 1960s only introduced the activities of filmmakers from the region or reported news of regional filming, confirming the decline of the regional film industry.
