Abstract

This study was designed to examine pre-service elementary school teachers' perception and satisfaction of the expression activity class in which they physically participated in movement expression that was basically comprised of Pilates movement, folkdance and creative expression, ultimately determining the feasibility of applying such basic elements of movement expression to elementary school education. Participants of the study were 80 pre-service elementary school teachers(male: 34, female: 46) attending a national university of education located in D city. . This research applied 14 sessions of movement expression as part of expression activity to the participants. Data were processed using the SPSS 26.0(ver.) Statistical Program in order to analyze validity and reliability and test goodness-of-fit. And then, this study carried out cross-tabulation analyses to find out how the participants' perception and satisfaction of the movement expression-based expression activity class and expected ratio of integrating that class to elementary school education varied depending on their gender. In association, the study conducted the independent sample chi-square test to determine difference by gender, where the significance level was set at .05. The findings of this study can be summarized as follows. First, pre-service elementary school teachers surveyed here showed a significance difference by gender in the physical(item no. 5) and intellectual(item no. 9) perception of expression activity in which they experientially performed movement expression. Second, those teachers' class satisfaction of expression activity was not significantly different by gender. And third, the pre-service educators, irrespective of gender, 98% responded that they were having the intent to apply expression activity as described above when they teach at elementary school in future.
