Abstract

The aim of this research was to investigate the relationship between experienced supervisor incivility and job insecurity, work engagement, and safety behaviors of flight attendants. To verify the hypothesis, a survey of 250 flight attendants was conducted. The confirmatory factor analysis and reliability analysis were performed to verify the validity and reliability of the examining items, and the serial mediation model was tested for hypothesis testing. The results showed that the experienced supervisor incivility had a positive effect on job insecurity and that job insecurity had a negative effect on work engagement. In addition, the work engagement of flight attendants had a positive effect on their safety behaviors. Finally, job insecurity and work engagement were found to have a significant mediating effect on the negative relationship between supervisor’s incivility and flight attendant’s safety behavior. The findings have theoretical implications for workplace incivility literature and managerial implications.
