Abstract

It is a thesis of Doing philosophy about what good death is through <Analects>. Good death is a process of insight into life and philosophy about death, and it should be revealed itself throughout one’s life. In <The Analects>, I discussed the fact that life and death are not separated in <Analects> along with the problem of awareness and realization of Providence and Tao. And It was discussed that the lack of harmony between human reason and emotion experienced within the time and space where life and death coexist should be overcome with sadness and courtesy. Next, I discussed that the good death referred to in <The Analects> is to know ‘Practice the Tao well despite death’, that is, what the way to go, and to do my best on that path and expand the horizon of life. In addition, And since death is an inevitable problem for anyone, it is necessary to deal with the sadness caused by it and recover from daily life, and I suggested that ‘Sad but not deeply hurt’ is the necessary attitude of life at this time. Rather than distinguishing death itself as good or bad, he stressed that a sufficient mourning process is needed for death to remain a good experience, and that it must be sadness enough to restore daily life again. Through this thesis, I introduced the way modern people can escape from thinking that divides death and life, and I tried to narrow the distance between death and life caused by science, commerce, and individual desires.
