Abstract
This study analyzes the characteristics of unsocial hours working in time poverty. Time poverty is caused by long working hours for male and long working hours and dual burden of caring and housework for female. It has not been studied that time allocation according to time zones of time-poor individuals and their difference, in spite of existing researches find out the cause, characteristics of time poverty and the relation time poverty and life-work balances and so on. Therefore, this study analyzes the relationship between time poverty and various working time arrangements, among which unsocial hour labor. As a result of an analysis using time-zone data and time-quantity data in the 5th Living Time Survey(2019), the time-poverty rate is about 20%, and the time poverty rate is higher for women, 30s, vocational college graduate, and unskilled workers. In case of time poverty, the difference between weekend work and night work is relatively larger compared to the difference weekly work in non-poverty situation. In the regression analysis by time poverty group, the primary cause of long-time work at night and weekends was from job differences, while differences in weekend and night time work were only significant for women in time poverty situation. This result is that men are in general long working hours regardless of whether they are in time poverty, and there is not much variation between individuals in working hours, whereas women fall into time poverty when working long hours as well as housekeeping and caring.
