Abstract

As global efforts to achieve carbon neutrality accelerate, the share of variable renewable energy (VRE), such as solar and wind power, is expanding rapidly worldwide. However, the inherent variability and unpredictability of these energy sources pose significant challenges to power grid stability and lead to energy curtailment issue. Jeju Island, operating an independent power grid, faces intensified energy curtailment problems due to its increasing renewable energy share and geographical characteristics. This study addresses five key strategies to mitigate curtailment issues in Jeju Island, utilizing expert input and the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) to assess the importance of evaluation criteria and prioritize alternatives. Additionally, the study identifies differences in evaluation among stakeholder groups.
