식민지시기 재일조선인 여성과 ‘교회’ 공간의 구성

이 논문은 식민지시기 재일조선인 여성들이 구성한 교회 공동체를 공간구성의 정치학, 즉 삶의 공간들 사이의 사회적 정치적 역학에 초점을 맞추어 고찰하고자 하였다. 특히 재일조선인 여성들이 일하던 공장, 그 공간 속의 재일조선인 여성은 민족적/인종적 위계, 노동자라는 계급적 위치, 그리고 여성 젠더라는 젠더 위계가 교차되는 존재였다. 이들이 점하고 있던 이세 가지 관계의 위치성은 각기 별개로 존재하기 보다는 서로 교차되고 얽히면서 그 관계성의 가장 하위에 존재하는 여성들의 삶을 더욱 고되게 만들었다. 여기에서 그들에게 다가온 것 중의 하나가 바로 조선인 여성 공동체로서의 ‘교회’였다. 사회적 정치적 욕망을 실현할 수 있는 조건이 차단된 재일조선인 여성들에게 교회 공동체는 이들에게 사회적 욕구를 충족시킬 수 있는 공간이 될 수 있었다. 그리고 여성들은 이를 적극 이용하여 자기실현의장으로 만들었다. 이렇게 보면, 교회는 이주 사회에서 여성들이 몸담고 있는 여러 공간들 사이의 역학관계를 통해 구성되었다고 할 수 있다. 아울러 그 공간은 젠더이원론으로 규정하기 어려운 복잡성을 가지고 있었다. 식민지시기에 일본으로 이주한 재일조선기독교회의 여성들이 남긴 증언집이나 그의 후손들에 의해 증언된 구술 자료들에는 정치적이고 사회적인 그녀들의 면모가 드러나기 때문이다. 교회 공간에는 단순히 여성 주체화의 역학이 온전히 실현된 공간으로만 해석하기 어려운 젠더 차별의 맥락이 존재하는 한편, 다른 한편에서는 여성들에게 그 공간 자체는 일정한 사회적 저항성을 담지한 자기실현의 공간이기도 했던 것이다. 본 연구가 재일조선인 여성들에게 여러 가지 방식으로 교차 작동되던 권력 관계에 의해 구성된 사회적 관계의 구성체로서 ‘교회’ 공간을 이해하는 이유도 여기에 있다 하겠다.
Abstract
This paper attempted to examine the ‘church’ community composed by women in Japan during the colonial period, focusing on the politics of spatial composition, that is, the social and political power among the spaces. In particular, the factory in Japan where Korean women worked, was the space crossing the ethnic/racial hierarchy with imperial Japan, the class position of workers, and the gender hierarchy. These three positions they occupied crossed and entangled with each other, making the lives of working women more difficult. One of the things that came to them here was the "church" as a Korean women's community. For Korean women in Japan, whose conditions for realizing social and political desires were blocked, the Christian community could be a space to satisfy their social needs. And women actively used it to make it a place for self-realization. In the end, it can be said that 1) the church was constructed through the relationship among the various spaces in which women were in the migrant society. And 2) The space had a complexity that was difficult to define as gender dualism. This is because the political and social aspects of them are revealed in the testimony book left by women of the Korean Christian Church in Japan during the colonial period. While there is a context of gender discrimination in the church space, which is difficult to interpret simply as a space where the dynamics of women's subjectivity are fully realized, on the other hand, for women, the space itself was also a space of self-realization. Therefore, it is necessary to understand the 'church' space as a composition of social relations composed of power relations that were operated in various ways at the time.
